Casa dos Acessórios promotes initiatives for a more sustainable society.
The preservation of the environment, the elimination of hazardous substances and the recovery of various components that could be useful in other products are more than enough reasons to recycle our household appliances correctly.
To do this, we need to understand the famous rule of the three R’s: reduce, reuse and recycle. This rule helps us to build a better world based on responsible consumption and the efficient use and recovery of the resources we use in our daily lives.
We estimate that in 2022 alone, our accessories and parts will have been used to repair around 60,000 devices in Portuguese homes.
There were 60,000 fridges, washing machines, dishwashers, ovens, extractor hoods, hobs, among many others, that didn’t end up in the garbage can.
Repairing equipment that has not yet completed its life cycle means making an ecologically sustainable choice, betting on reuse and avoiding the creation of bulky waste that is difficult to dispose of.
You should take pride in this choice: pride in having an object repaired in the knowledge that it has not only helped your pocket, but also the planet.
With this in mind, the European Commission has presented groundbreaking legislation that obliges manufacturers to facilitate the repair of various household appliances from 2021.
This means that all televisions, monitors, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines and dryers, dishwashers and lighting products placed on the European Union market must meet minimum repairability requirements aimed at extending their useful life, i.e. manufacturers must keep spare parts in stock for at least 10 years after the manufacture of a household appliance, in order to guarantee the right to have them repaired.
