The Sustainable Trend in Home Appliance Repair Leave a comment

Achieving a more sustainable world involves putting into practice the 6Rs: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and REPAIR.

• Household appliances are all over the house: washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator, oven, microwave, etc. However, over time, these break or start causing problems, leaving us with the difficult decision of whether to repair or buy a new one.

• Repair is essential to reduce the amount of waste we produce and the need to use more raw materials to manufacture new products.

• You may wonder many times whether it is worth repairing a piece of equipment or simply getting rid of it. This is because sometimes buying new appliances is cheaper than repairing them.

• This problem is also known as planned obsolescence. From the moment it is produced, each product has a planned expiration date and, once that time is up, it is no longer possible to obtain parts for repair.

• A new regulation approved by the European Union requires manufacturers to keep spare parts in stock for at least 10 years after the manufacture of a household appliance, in order to guarantee the right to its repair.
